Pizza Market Saturation? Domino's Pizza Leader Exits Following Shift Into Chicken.

The head of Domino's Pizza Group who proposed the United Kingdom might have hit maximum pizza demand while diversifying the company into poultry items has been ousted after conflicts with its governing body.

Leadership Shake-Up

The former CEO is exiting after just two years in leadership, and will be succeeded on an temporary basis by the company's operations head, Frampton, while the pizza giant searches for a new leader.

The outgoing executive, who worked for the company for more than two decades, had sought to shift Britain's biggest pizza delivery company towards chicken offerings, stating recently there was not “huge potential” left in the UK's pizza market. He observed chicken was the fastest-growing food category in the international market.

Board Disagreements

Sources suggest that there was tension between the CEO and the governance team over his strategy and management style, although Domino's official statement said he was stepping down “through mutual consent”.

New Product Introduction

In September, the chain unveiled its poultry product line – which Rennie referred to as a “bold new chapter” for the organization – and is testing it in 210 outlets in the north-west of England and the province.

While the company is still planning to expand it across its extensive network in the coming year as scheduled, it considers fried chicken as a supplement for its core pizza business.

Board Statement

The Domino's chair, the company chairman, said: “The board believes that there are a series of prospects to enhance value and profitability in Domino's core business. We are concentrating on selecting the suitable leader to direct the systematic rollout of that growth strategy.”

Industry Difficulties

In the latest update, Domino's, which has a substantial customer base in the British Isles, said transactions fell by 1.5 percent in the Q3. In the summer, it warned that the food delivery sector had “become tougher” as it attributed reduced spending in the lead-up to the government announcement and increasing labor expenses for weaker-than-expected sales and a significant fall in interim earnings.

Other pizza operators are also facing challenges. Pizza Hut announced the closing of 68 restaurants a last month, after the company behind its outlets faced financial collapse.

Wellness Initiatives

Trying to keep up with market shifts towards healthier eating, Domino's has rolled out lower-calorie products, such as its Thin & Crispy line of bakes below 400 calories as well as meat-free and allergy-friendly options. A family-sized pepperoni has 2,311 calories. A family cheese pizza has over 2,100, while a personal has under 1,000 calories.

Interim Management

The interim chief has been with the company since the recent past, and previously worked for the gambling company William Hill. It is understood that she does not want to assume the CEO position on a full-time basis.

She said: “Our team has a number of ongoing growth and operational projects that we will be focused on carrying out at pace.”

She said these involved ongoing development on the company's logistics network and new item creation, and its rewards program.

The pizza chain is also lacking a permanent finance director until the spring, when a new appointee comes aboard from the beverage producer a well-known firm. In the meantime, Snow serves as temporary CFO.
